Former Fredericton mayor Brad Woodside says he lost a ‘very good friend’ with the passing of Keith Ashfield.
The former MLA and MP, who was once again vying for provincial politics, died over the weekend at the age of 66.
“Keith was a very good friend of mine, somebody that I had supported for many years provincially and federally,” says Woodside. “He worked extremely hard for his riding. He was the only guy that I could ever beat in golf.”
Terribly sad news. I have lost a great friend and public servant. My condolences to all that will be affected by this news. RIP Keith.

Woodside worked closely with Ashfield during his time in office and says he was easily accessible and worked extremely hard for his riding.
“Keith never seemed to me to be the kind of guy that would be a federal minister or a provincial minister or a politician for that fact, but he was all of those things and he did it extremely well and he did it more like a normal human being rather than a politician.”
