Moosehead’s new small-batch brewery and tap room at its west side brewhouse will officially open its doors this weekend.
It features a 20 barrel brewing system, a three-barrel pilot system and a semi-automatic growler filler which Moosehead says will be the first of its kind in eastern Canada.
Moosehead CEO Andrew Oland says this will new brewery will give them the chance to experiment more with their beer.
“The challenge we’ve had it’s just too much beer when we brew it to really experiment because if it doesn’t sell then we’ve got an issue,” says Oland.
“We’ve done various styles and brands over the years, I would say we’ve dipped our feet in the [craft beer] pool in the past. Whereas we’re jumping…right into the beer.”
When it opens on Saturday at 10 a.m. there’ll be five new Moosehead beers available including a brown October ale inspired by the founder of Moosehead Breweries Susannah Oland who in 1867 first brewed that same type of beer.
The tap room is going to be the start and finish point of all Moosehead Brewery tours.
“If you combine the Reversing Rapids, the Irving Nature Park and now our small-batch brewery on the west side you’re starting to get a nice tourism cluster in west Saint John.”
