Saint John firefighters rescued a woman this weekend who had broken her leg while out on the Split Rock trail near Coleson Cove — which is out around Lorneville.
Platoon chief Barry Oickle says the first arriving crew had to hike about two kilometers on Sunday afternoon to find the woman and confirmed she’d broken her leg below the knee.
More firefighters arrived and brought in a stokes basket, they packaged her into that and started heading back to the beginning of the trail.
“Approximately one-third of the way remaining, crews met up with EMS who were coming into the scene, did another quick assessment of the patient, she was still okay,” says Oickle, “so they proceeded further out to the awaiting ambulance.”
The call came in just after 1pm.
