Re-drawing the Saint John-Rothesay boundary at Kennebecasis Park would have lots of benefits, according to one person who lives there.
K-Park is part of Rothesay but the entrance and part of Park Road leading into it are within city limits.
Korey Nixon is calling on the two municipalities to lobby the province for a boundary re-draw.
Nixon tells our newsroom it just makes sense for the city to rid itself of the land since any time and money spent there benefits mainly Rothesay residents.
“I do very much care about Saint John’s finances,” says Nixon, “and Saint John maintaining this area that doesn’t benefit any of its citizens is certainly an opportunity for Saint John to save some money by divesting of that small piece of property.”
‘An opportunity for both municipalities’
Nixon says the current situation creates a “no man’s land” of sorts when it comes to getting things done to that section of the road, such as filling potholes and painting lines.
“It’s not a priority for Saint John to paint the lines there, and I understand that,” he says.”I just think this is an opportunity for both municipalities to agree to a slight boundary re-draw and everybody is happy.
Nixon says he is not trying to pit the communities against one another — he just wants to create positive change.
He says he received a “mostly supportive” response from the town and has now sent a letter to the city, which is included as part of the agenda for Monday night’s Common Council meeting.
