Chubby cats are in the spotlight this week at the Greater Moncton SPCA.
Director of Animal Welfare Nanette Pearl says 20 to 30 per cent of the cats that come in to the shelter are overweight and it often takes them longer to get adopted.
“They do come with some potential health issues or risks as they age, anything from stress fractures, diabetes, and grooming issues. But they will be more active in your home and they can lose the pounds. You can also work on weight loss with the help of your Veterinarian.”
She says chubby cats are just as wonderful as any other, they are just bigger, but if you adopt one, you can help them to get back into shape.
She recommends getting the help of a Veterinarian.
