It has been six months since the province unveiled its five-year nursing home plan, but the announcements keep coming.
Saint John Harbour MLA Ed Doherty visited three Saint John nursing homes last Wednesday to announce $8.1 million for renovations over five years.
One of those was Kennebec Manor, which was built in 1980, and we asked CEO Judy Lane what they will replace with the $1.9 million.
“Major things like the fire alarm system and the piping,” Lane said. “Those are big-ticket items that need to be replaced if we are going to be able to live here longer.”

Some of the work has already started, but with a provincial election coming up, it is unclear what will happen if the Liberals are defeated.
Lane was asked if she has any concerns about the flow of money if another party is elected in September.
“We will only receive the money as government doles it out,” she said, “so I hope that the plan will still stay, whichever government comes into power.”
Carleton-Kirk Complex and the Church of St. John and St. Stephen Home are also in line to get money for renovations.
