Black Friday started out as an American phenomenon but it has spilled across the border and Canadians are now embracing it with open arms.
Many retailers are offering big bargains and door-crasher specials to lure customers today.
Spending on Black Friday grew by almost 4.5 percent nationwide last year compared to the year prior and has surpassed Boxing Day according to Moneris, Canada’s largest payment processor.
There was huge growth in spending on electronics, apparel and in specialty retail stores.
Quebec and Saskatchewan saw the largest spending growth on Black Friday last year.
New Brunswick had a small jump of about 1 percent compared to 2016.
