A New Brunswick political science professor is surprised at how many people dropped out of the provincial Liberal leadership race this week, including Fredericton’s Susan Holt and Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long.
J.P. Lewis of UNB Saint John says Kevin Vickers stepping down from his diplomatic post fuels speculation that he may run.
Lewis thinks it will be a competitive leadership race similar to the Tories having a crowded leadership field.
“If you become the leader of the Liberal party, you are not that far from becoming premier because we are in a minority government situation,” Lewis said.
Lewis said it is relatively early so there is still time for people to join the race to become the next leader of the New Brunswick Liberal party.
