New Brunswick is making the push for more electric vehicles and less pollution.
MP for South-west New Brunswick, Karen Ludwig announced the addition of seven new, fast e-charging sites across the province.
The new stations can be found in St. Stephen by the Garcelon Civic Center, in Saint Andrews behind the W.C. O’Neill Arena, as well as in Campbellton, Caraquet, Shediac, Sussex, and one in Fredericton will be installed in the Spring of 2019.
Ludwig says its an important milestone in the transition to a clean growth future.
“Our government is committed to encouraging change in our transportation choices by building the infrastructure needed for Canadians to drive electric and alternative fuel vehicles.”
New Brunswick’s Minister of Environment and Local Government, Jeff Carr, says they are continuing to find ways to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
“We believe that expanding the network will make the difference for New Brunswickers to embrace electric vehicles more readily, along with providing more options to make greener choices.”
The additional charging stations come with a price tag of $1.276 million.
NB Power is investing $926,000, while Natural Resources Canada will invest $350,000 for the project.
NB Power President and CEO Gaeton Thomas says they are proud to help put in place the infrastructure needed to support the adoption of electric vehicles.
“Since the launch of our public charging network for electric vehicles in 2017, we have made significant progress in expanding the network to cover the entire province and make New Brunswick the first fully-connected province in Canada for electric vehicles.”
Thomas says an all-electric vehicle can recharge up to 80% in about thirty minutes at one of the new stations.
There are already nineteen existing charging stations around the province, and with the added seven, it will make it possible to travel from Quebec to Halifax, Nova Scotia, with a round trip in New Brunswick, solely on electricity.
