Winter is soon coming to and end and we will then know if the frigid temperatures we had may have helped slow down a voracious invasive species in our province.
It’s called the Emerald Ash Borer and it has been decimating Ash forests in several provinces and the Nature Conservancy of Canada’s Andrew Holland says it is expensive to deal with and cited Winnipeg as an example.
” They’ve been undertaking taking a plan over the last year because emerald ash borer has been discovered there,it has crossed the border into Edmunston and last year it was found in and around Halifax and Bedford, Nova Scotia, this thing gets on the move and it’s not a good thing”, stated Holland.
Holland says there can also be an economic impact for any industry that uses Ash trees for its products, such as the manufacturing of furniture, baseball bats and even hockey sticks.
