The National Basketball League of Canada is implementing a new Code of Conduct for its fans.
This comes after racist comments were made toward players on the Windsor Express team during a game in January.
The League says it will have a “zero tolerance” stance on disrespectful and derogatory comments.
NBLC Deputy Commissioner Audley Stephenson says while he wants fans to have fun at the games, respect should come first.
“There are things that may be said or uttered over the course of the game in the spirit of fandom if you will, but sometimes there are things that do cross the line,” he said.
Stephenson says he hopes to see attendees step up to the plate, and report incidents if they happen.
“I don’t think it’s just an NBL Canada responsibility, I think we all play a part in enforcing this.”
He says if fans witness someone violating the code, they should report it to arena security or an N-B-L-C official.
Fans who break the code will be ejected from games, have their seasons tickets revoked, or even be arrested.
