New Brunswick’s Auditor General is poised to get a big increase to her office’s budget tomorrow when the province presents its annual budget.
AG Kim MacPherson says she has been asking the province for the raise for a number of years, and is hoping for a 50 per cent increase.
“I’m very optimistic that we’re going to get a very sizable increase to the tune of a million dollars,” she said.
This would see her budget go from 2.3 million to 3.3 million.
MacPherson says this will allow her office to add resources and double the work they do.
In the past, she said the lack of funding for the auditor general’s office hindered its independence and ability to do good work.
