It may be a little too late for this year but the City of Saint John says it will be more ready than ever for icy sidewalks next winter.
The city recently purchased a new piece of equipment it is designed to churn up the ice on any sidewalk according to the Commissioner of Transportation and Environmental Services, Michael Hugenholtz.
” It’s a roller with teeth on it, as it rolls on an icy sidewalk it breaks up that ice, so we are really looking forward to getting that in action for the next season.”
Hugenholtz says it was brought to their attention by a resident around the same time they had first heard of it and the decision was made because it was an ideal piece of equipment for a city that gets a lot of ice in the wintertime.
