A job fair for those looking for work at call centres will take place Wednesday in Saint John.
This comes less than a week after S&P Data laid off over 100 employees from their Saint John office.
Jim Hennessy with Opportunities NB, one of the organizations hosting the fair, says while the event isn’t a direct result of the layoffs, he hopes it will help those affected.
“We wanted to ensure that everybody that is looking to continue with their employment, especially here in Saint John, that the transition hopefully will be a smooth one,” he said in an interview.
He says there are at least 600 positions that need to be filled in the Greater Saint John area.
Hennessy says his goal is “ensuring that everybody walks away with a smile on their face and hopefully with a new career to start as well.”
“We’re hoping that within that three hour span today that we can make a lot of matches and we can find a lot of people some work,” he said.
It’ll take place at Loch Lomond Place Suite 200, from 10 AM to 1 PM.
Along with Opportunities NB, Economic Development of Greater Saint John, Contact NB and the province will all be hosting.
