The Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station will be going offline for the next five weeks for a planned maintenance outage.
This is the first time it’s been offline in 310 days.
Staff will perform more than 8,000 activities with help from about 500 contractors and tradespeople from New Brunswick and beyond.
The province says outages like this one help ensure the long-term ability of the station to meet the energy needs of New Brunswickers.
Outages are scheduled during times when electricity use is seasonally lower and hydro output is higher, so as not to impact customers.
The generating station plays a major role in New Brunswick’s goal to have 75 per cent of its electricity come from clean, renewable sources by 2020.
