The Canadian Cancer Society’s Annual Daffodil campaign will wrap next Thursday, and they’re on track for another successful year, according to NB Executive Director of the Society, Anne McTiernan.
McTiernan says the money raised from the campaign goes to support ground breaking cancer research, programs and services for when people need support the most, as well as advocacy for better public policy.
“Really those public policy changes reach out to and effect everybody,” she said in an interview.
McTiernan tells us, the campaign has old school and new ways to spreading the message.
“It’s actually a campaign we’ve been doing since the 1950’s across Canada, and so now we’ve added in addition to the fresh flowers we have pins and we also have a digital campaign for the first time this year,” she said.
McTiernan says people are always in a good mood when they see the daffodil campaign underway, as it is usually an indicator that the long winter is over.
“People are always so pleased to see that little yellow flower in bloom, especially in places like New Brunswick where we still have snow on the ground. It gives them a jump in their step,” she said.
