The public can now more easily access information on road conditions, incidents and ferry disruptions through a new mobile application launched last week.
The new application, My511, is now available for both Android and iOS users and allows them to receive road condition and incident notifications about the highway segments they select.
Notifications include:
- Travel not recommended.
- Emergency and service vehicles only.
- Road closed/impassable.
- Ferry restrictions.
“Our 511 service is an important tool for our road users, especially during severe storms and during the spring freshet,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Oliver in a release. “We continue to improve how we communicate with New Brunswickers and find ways to make our service more user-friendly.”
The My511 mobile application is Phase 2 of planned enhancements to the province’s 511 service.
Phase 1 saw the successful creation of a 511 twitter account.
Later this year, as part of the final phase. the province will launch a similar application for personal computers.
“As technology advances, we must make effective use of it,” said Oliver. “Using a mobile application to push important messages directly to the phones of our residents is a great step toward ensuring everyone has the information they need during times of emergency.”
Road information will also continue to be available through previous methods such as phoning 511 within the province and the New Brunswick 511 website.
