It wasn’t just the old provincial courthouse getting federal funding this week, the Imperial Theatre got half a million dollars to make the improved exterior make the inside.
In recent years, the 107-year-old building needed critical repairs to fix the crumbling facade and leaking roof and the theatre’s marquee is currently being upgraded.
Executive Director Angela Campbell says they will work with the Imperial Theatre to come up with additional funds to improve how the lobby functions.
She says the way space is used has changed over the 25 years since the Imperial re-opened.
“Concessions have become a big demand from customers, we are looking for more meeting space, we are looking for places where people can have unique experiences and use the lobbies outside of just coming to a show,” Campbell said.
Campbell says the upgrades include expanding the washrooms.
