The Saint John EMO says the record flooding last year became a real hands-on learning experience as it deals with this year’s flooding, which could be even worse.
Director Kevin Clifford feels the response this year so far is even better than last year.
” We have been methodical, there is more precision we are not spending as much time planning our day we are doing it the night before, so I think we’ve improved” stated Clifford.
The city is also protecting infrastructure like it did last year when it built a berm to stop the flooding of a water treatment facility.
” We actually left that berm in place so that was one of the things we learned,” said Clifford.
Clifford says Saint John Water has already taken out two lift stations in the affected areas and it may have to do that with others depending on the severity of the flood forecast.
