At least six people were temporarily displaced after a fire at an apartment building Friday afternoon in Saint John.
The Saint John Fire Department says the blaze started in the furnace room and heavily damaged one of five apartments in the older, three-storey wood-frame building and caused smoke damage to another. Power was turned off to the entire building.
There were no injuries from the fire, reported around 4:45 p.m. Friday in the Kennedy Street building.
Red Cross volunteers arranged emergency lodging and meals for a man from one unit, as well as food purchases for a man from a second apartment and for a woman and her daughter from a third.
Tenants of two apartments at the back of the building were unaffected other than a temporary power disconnection.
