Karen Ludwig is inviting organizations to apply for funding for community-based projects that are aimed at seniors.
The MP for Southwest New Brunswick announcing the call for proposals through the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which will support community-based projects that engage seniors.
“Our seniors are vibrant, engaged and vital to growing strong communities and economies. They are the compass that guides the next generation. We deeply and sincerely value the contribution seniors make to our province and to our country.”
The projects must address at least one of five objectives: volunteering, mentoring, expanding awareness of elder abuse, social participation, and capital assistance.
Priorities also include counteracting ageism in the workplace by promoting labour market retention of seniors, as well as supporting healthy aging in community and addressing dementia.
The NHSP is a federal grants and contributions program aiming to support projects that improve the quality of life and well-being of seniors.
The goal is to also foster social inclusion by engaging seniors in all aspects of society.
Community-based projects are eligible to receive up to $25,000 in grant funding through the program, or up to $5000 to organizations who have not received funding in the past five years.
Since 2004, more than 23,600 projects have been funded in hundreds of communities across Canada, with the total investment coming in at $487.7 million.
The deadline to submit is June 21, 2019.
