The Greater Moncton River of Pride organization wants New Brunswick to ban conversion therapy, a practice designed to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity.
The pseudo-scientific practice has been widely denounced by numerous organizations around the world.
River of Pride spokesperson Charles MacDougall says a public campaign has been launched urging residents to contact their local MLA’s.
MacDougall says the practice of conversion therapy is deeply homophobic and action is needed.
He says River of Pride has met with all political parties in the legislature and members seem supportive of a ban.
MacDougall wants to see the legislature adopt a bill banning the practice.
He adds conversion therapy can happen here noting how a national organization announced a retreat in New Brunswick last year but it was later cancelled.
