Fundy Royal MP Alaina Lockhart chose a crowded coffee shop in Uptown Saint John to explain the federal governments new Tourism Growth Strategy.
Lockhart says they are using three pillars providing $58.5 million through the Canadian Experiences Fund, developing tourism investment groups and finally a tourism industry economic strategy table.
“This table elevates tourism to the same level as other high growth sectors such as Biotech, Clean Tech and Advanced Manufacturing it will bring industry members together with government to identify and overcome hurdles to growth,” stated Lockhart.
Those hurdles are labour shortages, infrastructure and the high cost of travelling in Canada.
Lockhart also stated “The regional tourism investment groups will target key sectors that have already been identified, Winter and Shoulder season tourism, Rural tourism, Indigenous tourism, LGBTQ2 tourism and Culinary Tourism.”
Tourism in New Brunswick sustains 3,600 small businesses and creates 43,000 jobs.
