A military member at CFB Gagetown has been charged following allegations of sexual misconduct.
Lieutenant Carmine Olea-Ortega, a Reserve Force member, faces a number of charges under the National Defense Act, including two counts of abuse of subordinates, and one count of drunkenness.
The charges relate to a number of incidents involving other members of the Armed Forces, which took place at or near the Gagetown base in July 2018.
An investigation was launched following a third party complaint received at the local Military Police detachment alleging inappropriate sexual behavior.
“The Canadian Forces Military Police seek to investigate and where appropriate lay charges based on factual evidence regardless of location in Canada or abroad. All members of the Canadian Armed Forces – whether they are part of the Reserve Force or Regular Force – should expect to serve in a respectful and professional environment safe from harmful and inappropriate sexual behaviour,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Kevin Cadman, Commanding Officer of Canadian Forces National Investigation Service, in a release.
A court date and location has yet to be determined.
