The federal government has announced its new airline passengers Bill of Rights but it is a two-phased approach and that has a major proponent behind the bill disappointed.
The Canadian Automobile Association’s Vice President Atlantic Gary Howard says the initial phase will begin on July 15 even though it has taken three years to get to this point.
“That will provide compensation for overbooking or being bumped from your flight as well as compensation for lost or damaged luggage, stated Howard.
The maximum compensation could be up to $2400 for being bumped according to the bill.
The second phase starts on December 15 and has to do with delays and cancellations and ensuring there is no charge for parents being allowed to sit next to their children.
Howard feels the delay is ” To allow the airlines to get prepared but he says once it is in place by December 15 the Canadian Airline Passengers Bill Of Rights will be comparable if not better than most other countries.”
