The provincial government has announced it will reduce the speed limit on Route 102 at Kingsclear First Nation. Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Oliver says they are committing to collaborate with the community to reduce the speed limit to 70 kilometres per hour.
The department is funding a two-phased road safety audit within the community.
The first phase focused on Route 102 and is now complete. Results of this audit will also feature ways to encourage reduced speeds on this section of road.
Exact measures, beyond signage along Route 102, are being finalized.
The department is also planning to monitor the effectiveness of these measures and the impacts on traffic in the community.
The second phase, which focuses on other roads within Kingsclear First Nation, is ongoing.
Other efforts by the department to improve that section of road included brush-cutting last fall.
