The Town of St. George has signed a renewable land use agreement with JD Irving Lmt. so the community can enjoy certain properties owned by the company.
The nine sites include Canal Beach, the Eagles Nest Picnic area, the Day Adventure Centre, Ducks Unlimited Trails, the Riverview Trail and Main Street Trail, the Maine Street Picnic area, the Upper Gorge Lot, and the South Street Bridge area.
St. George Mayor Crystal Cook says the sites are familiar to many in the community, as well as visitors and tourists, “These are special places to enjoy and appreciate St. George’s wonderful natural surroundings with family and friends.”
She says JDI recognizes the importance of the agreement, and says they have been a real partner in working with the town to provide access to the Irving-owned land.
Director of Corporate Relations with JDI Woodlands, Robert Fawcett says they have been part of the community for almost sixty years, and many of their employees live in the area.
We are pleased to work with the town on projects like this that promote outdoor recreation and enjoyment of the unique wetland areas by the community and visitors.”
Minister Andrea Anderson-Mason, who is the MLA for Fundy-The Isles-Saint John West, says she is thrilled at the possibilities this opens for St. George.
“It gives greater opportunity to showcase our natural beauty for both locals and visitors to our area.”
