Premier Blaine Higgs says if we could develop our natural gas in this province responsibly it would be a boost for the economy.
Speaking at Port Days, Higgs told reporters the owners of Canaport LNG in Saint John have already mentioned they would be looking to be involved.
“They could be converted to an LNG export now that’s not a cheap conversion so it would be around an 8 billion to 10 billion dollar project, and Repsol said if we had gas here we would look at converting that facility” stated Higgs.
He says we have a potential huge private sector investment with shale gas, staring us right in the face and says we can’t just keep saying no.
The Premier also mentioned the nation of Norway which he says could be an example for New Brunswick.
” We have squandered our resources and Norway knowing many years ago it was a finite resource as we should have, has invested around the world I think I read a trillion dollars worth of assets,” stated Higgs.
