Don’t be suprised to see a lot of emergency vehicles on Grandview Avenue today.
The Saint John Fire Department is doing a hazardous materials (hazmat) training exercise at the Praxair carbon dioxide production facility.
The Hazmat Team will partner with Praxair to conduct a series of drills using various tools and equipment.
All exercise scenarios will take place within the Grandview Avenue facility and surrounding gated area.
The city says traffic will not be disrupted during the exercise, and participating first responders will not be responding with lights and sirens.
This annual training exercise is conducted as a joint operation with Praxair staff and supports the preparedness and response capabilities of the Saint John Fire Department’s Regional Hazmat Team.
The city’s Hazmat team has been established since 1991 and provides a planned response to incidents across New Brunswick where the public are exposed to risks created from a release of or fire involving hazardous materials.
