What a trip!
A little over a week ago I set sail on Trish’s Big Country Getaway with Bay Ferries and had a chance to explore Digby, Yarmouth and Pubnico. I can’t wait to go back. It is, after all, just a short sail away.
From the time I boarded I was on-the-go starting with tours around the Fundy Rose. I ate a lovely breakfast and met some new friends at the Acadia Eatery.
From there I was given the grand tour which included a stop to meet Captain Dave Doucette. He begrudgingly took the vessel off “auto” and allowed me to step behind the wheel, an experience I won’t soon forget!
Did I really get to steer the Fundy Rose? Yes. Yes I did.
Did anyone get hurt? No.
Seasick? Mmm…Perhaps. (A huge thanks to the entire crew for being such great hosts.)
Nev Parker showed me the heart of the ship, the engine room! It was deafening, sweltering and fantastic. Thanks again, Nev!
You already know that you can jump on the Fundy Rose and be in Digby. Plus, throughout July and August there is on-board entertainment every single day. If that’s not enough of a reason to set sail then maybe these reasons will help:
The Digby Pines: Aside from the staff, the scallop dinner, and my super comfy bed, there was one other thing that knocked my socks off…the breakfast buffet! Think of something you would enjoy having at breakfast. Do it. It will be at the buffet. I guarantee it.
GAEL Tours: My afternoon adventure was lead by Greg Turner. I am certain there isn’t anybody who knows more about Digby than Greg. He’s the person you want riding shotgun if you want to know something about anything. Greg is one of my favourite new friends. He hasn’t seen the last of me. (Shhh, don’t warn him!)
Mariner Sea Cruises: Although I didn’t actually go whale watching, I feel like I learned a boat-load about it thanks to Amy Tudor. We should all be as passionate about what we do as Amy is. She was a joy to connect with and learn from. If you ever have the chance to meet her, ask about Ol’ Tom.
Blue Mind Gallery: I was so busy enjoying an impromptu serenade that I didn’t think to get a picture! But this is a must-see if you like local artistic works. Thanks Carmen & David for the fun visit.
Rendez Vous de la Baie: Chantal Surette was engaging and light-hearted. She even had a small lunch prepared after a visit to Smugglers Cove. I enjoyed the museum tour and the story she shared about “Outer Baldonia”. (Check out this link! So interesting and amusing.)
CIFA: It wouldn’t be vacation if I didn’t miss my job, so it was nice to get back behind the mic with the gals from CIFA Radio. Thank you Lisa, Emile and staff for letting me barge in and be a part of your show. The invitation is open for you to come this way anytime.
Beverage Tours: Yeah, I went bevvy-hopping! First was Lazy Bear Brewing, then on to Bear River Vineyards and finally Casa Nova Fine Beverages. Each with their own unique beverages…luckily I got to taste them all. Or did I? I can’t remember…
After stops at Dennis Point Wharf and the local eatery (I tried Rappie Pie)…
I have to say Trish’s Big Country Getaway with Bay Ferries was a blast! I had so many incredible experiences, too many to list. When I was sailing home, I had a chance to reflect and I realized something, the experiences were great but it was the people that really made it a getaway to remember.
After all, a world of new friends is just a short sail away.
