The provincial government has announced where its new Kindergarten to Grade 8 school in Hanwell will be located.
The school, set to hold 650 students,will be constructed right next to the Hanwell Community Centre.
Education Minister Dominic Cardy is pretty happy to be announcing the new location
About 450 students from Hanwell currently take a 30 to 50-minute bus ride to go to schools in Fredericton.
“This new 36 classroom school will alleviate the long bus rides as well as the overcrowding at schools on Fredericton’s southside, the new Hanwell School is slated to open in January 2022,” stated Cardy.
The Mayor of Hanwell Susan Cassidy is also very pleased with the location.
“The community has been actively lobbying for several years to have the opportunity to educate our children closer to home and with the announcement of the school’s location, that will become a reality,” stated Mayor Cassidy.
