A New Brunswick company, on Tobique First Nation that put a spin on a traditional Canadian treat is looking at expanding.
Wabanaki Maple ages its maple syrup in bourbon, whiskey or toasted oak barrels to infuse it with delicious and unique flavors.
Jolene Laskey is the owner of Wabanaki Maple and says she was inspired by her roots.
“I have a love of my ancestral background and I though that through our maple syrup products we could share a piece of our culture and history, since is a traditional indigenous food and has been for centuries,” she says.
The company recently won the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest.
The grant includes 30 thousand dollars in cash, 10 thousand in marketing services and a meeting with FedEx Express President, Lisa Lisson.
The company will be placing the grant towards new equipment, marketing, growing their team possibly expanding their building.
