There are a lot of smiling faces on Campobello Island these days and it is not just the tourists.
Business owners are ecstatic they finally have ferry service restored to the island after more than a year.
Jim Langerfeld and his wife own and operate the Campobello Whale Watch Motel and he says they took a big hit last year.
“We lost about 20 percent of our business last year because we didn’t have the ferry, so when you have a business with a 15 percent profit and you lose 20 percent that is not good.” Langerfeld said.

He says one of the big things they missed out on last year was golfers coming for single day trips to check out the great links or those who play a few rounds a week.
There have been a number of construction projects on the island and the lack of a ferry has been a nightmare for contractors.
“The workers really appreciate it because for them to try to go through the states they’ve got to get an inventory of everything that is on their trucks and special permits,” stated Langerfeld.
Langerfeld is also encouraging people to not only come and visit the island but use it as a transit point to the Maritimes.
“We are a great stopover from New England to PEI and Nova Scotia because it is about 6 hours from New England to here and if you stay here you don’t have to go through customs twice,” stated Langerfeld.
