The federal government has recently announced a contribution of more than $1.7 million toward tourism projects for New Brunswick.
It includes funding for grooming equipment for six local snowmobile clubs, infrastructure improvements and the Fundy Guild to help establish a premier destination for mountain biking.
Alaina Lockhart, Fundy Royal MP, says investing in things like snowmobiling helps encourage people to visit outside of peak tourism season.
The Province of New Brunswick also contributed $300,000 dollars to the snowmobile trail project, as well as $600,000 to the Fundy Trail project.
Lockhart says it all ties into the Canadian National Tourism strategy that was unveiled in May.
“For areas like Atlantic Canada to really come to the forefront and so that visitors who are visiting Canada get to see all areas of the country and that means that we do need to build experiences to offer them, these announcements were all part of that strategy,” she says.
Urban areas such as Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver have marketed themselves through unique tourism experiences.
Lockhart says the plan is to bring tourists to more rural parts of the country by offering them memorable opportunities.
She adds 1 in 10 jobs in Canada are related to tourism and that creating more jobs within the sector opens up opportunities for young people and seniors.
