New Brunswickers are being invited to comment on two proposals introduced in the legislative assembly during this spring.
Notably, the standing committee on law amendments is reviewing Bill 39, An Act Respecting Proof of Immunization.
The purpose of Bill 39 is to remove non-medical exemptions from the mandatory immunization requirements for public school and licensed early learning and child care admissions.
It requires students attending public schools and children in licensed early learning and child care facilities to provide either proof of immunization or a medical exemption on a form signed by a medical professional.
Public hearings on Bill 39 will take place Aug. 27-29 at the legislative assembly.
The committee is also asking for New Brunswicker’s feedback on Motion 31, which deals with heavy industry taxes.
Motion 31 is expected to hear from experts and stakeholders to make recommendations on whether property tax exemptions or benefits for heavy industry should be reduced, or eliminated entirely.
The motion, put forward by Liberal MLA Gerry Lowe, aims to have a positive economic impact in Saint John, which has a heavy industrial presence.
Public hearings on Motion 31 will take place at the legislative assembly in Fredericton from September 4th to 6th.
Individuals or organizations hoping to make presentations on either proposal should contact the office of the clerk by August 7th.
Those who are unable to make a presentation and prefer to submit a written brief on either proposal should do so by Friday, Sept. 6, by contacting the office of the clerk by phone or by email.
