The Saint John Fire Department is mourning the loss of their colleague, Lieutenant Dan Finnigan, who passed away last Wednesday.
Finnegan, known to many as ‘Big Finn’, joined the fire department in 1987 and served as a professional fire fighter for the SJFD for his entire career.
He died on July 10th at age 58, surrounded by loved ones.
“Dan was a proud firefighter who served the community and citizens of Saint John with extreme dedication and professionalism. He truly was one of the best,” said Fire Chief Kevin Clifford in a release, who has worked alongside Finnigan for the past 32 years. “Above all, Dan was a devoted husband, friend and colleague who will be greatly missed and always remembered.”
A line-of-duty death funeral will be held later this afternoon at 1 PM, with a procession from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Westmorland Road.
Interment will follow at the Church of Good Shepherd Cemetery on Manawagonish Road.
It is open to all fire service personnel, emergency responders, family and friends.
“Dan loved his family endlessly and our deepest condolences and thoughts remain with his wife and family during this difficult time,” said Clifford. “We will continue to offer them our support as we mourn together.”
