Friday was a big day for Family Plus/Life Services in Saint John with the word it is getting $739,000 over five years to run a Child and Youth Advocacy Centre.
The centre will be built in Saint John but serve the entire St. Stephen to Sussex corridor.
“If multiple agencies are involved in a case, a child’s family would have to go to separate places,” stated executive director Heather Maughan. “This would stop that practice.”
Maughan says a feasibility study found the centre should be in Saint John and then provide regional services somehow.
The funding announcement was made by Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long.
Fundy Royal MP Alaina Lockhart and New Brunswick Southwest MP Karen Ludwig also praised the work done by Family Plus/Life Solutions, which is now in its 90th year of existence.
