Seven cases of legionellosis have been confirmed in the Greater Moncton area, according to the Department of Health.
The disease is caused by bacteria found in natural bodies of water, like ponds and rivers, and in constructed water systems such as air conditioners and spas.
Legionellosis is not spread from person to person, but rather through infected water sources.
Symptoms are similar to pneumonia or respiratory illnesses, such as fever, chills, couch, shortness of breath, and aches.
If you are experiencing any of those symptoms, seek medical care, or call 8-1-1.
Seniors and people with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of developing the disease.
In New Brunswick, 28 cases were reported to Public Health between 2015 and 2018.
