The Kitchen is an excellent option for those looking for a crime drama to watch in the dog days of summer, led by three powerhouse actresses as a literal killer trifecta of mob bosses.
In 1978 in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, the Irish mobster husbands of Kathy (Melissa McCarthy, Bridesmaids), Ruby (Tiffany Haddish, Girls Trip) and Claire (Elisabeth Moss, The Handmaid’s Tale) are arrested by the FBI and sentenced to three years in prison.
The women, after the mob fails to support them, take matters into their own hands and take over their husband’s rackets, and swiftly move up the ladder of organized crime. With the help of Vietnam veteran and former mob enforcer Gabriel (Domhnall Gleeson, About Time). They become even more powerful and ruthless than their spouses, sparking tension in the criminal institution that shun women in power.
McCarthy, Haddish and Moss frankly beat the Corleone family at their own game. In nature, the females of most species are the most dangerous – something humanity has yet to learn, at their peril.
