This is Pride Week and for the first time staff, family and seniors from Loch Lomond Villa will be participating in the annual parade on Saturday.
CEO Cindy Donovan says a task force has also been struck to ensure safety for any members of the LGBTQ2+ community at the facility.
” We are doing this task force and so far we have looked at our policies and how we can make them more specific in regards to the LGBTQ2+ community and that would be pronouns and gender and those types of words that you often hear especially this week stated Donovan.
Donovan says “Sometimes you have a member of the community who have been living out for 30 or 40 years but feels the need to go back into closet once they enter a seniors care home, and that is something we never want to see happen at Loch Lomond Villa.”
Staff are being trained and those who feel they are a safe person for someone from that community to talk to will be easily recognizable.
“They will actually have a sticker on their name tag which indicates that they are a safe person and supportive to someone who might want to come forward and talk to them,” stated Donovan.
