A North Atlantic right whale remains entangled in the Gulf of St. Lawrence as rough weather delays rescue efforts.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) says the Campobello Whale Rescue Team was not able to reach the whale on Wednesday off the coast of the Magdalen Islands.
DFO says the team is on standby to help when the weather improves and a coast guard vessel has also been dispatched to the area.
Officials say the entangled whale has been identified as an older male named Snake Eyes and was first seen in 1979.
The whale was last spotted in mid-July swimming freely in the Gulf.
Due to adverse weather, disentanglement of the North Atlantic #RightWhale off the Magdalen Islands wasn’t possible today. Adverse weather in the region is expected through to the end of the week.
