The provincial energy minister says it’s disappointing that Corridor Resources will stop marketing potential shale gas projects in New Brunswick for now.
The government will not be considering exemptions to the fracking moratorium while consultations with First Nations continue.
Energy and Resource Development Minister Mike Holland says he understands why Corridor Resources can’t wait around forever but he lays the blame at the feet of the Liberals.
“You don’t have to look into the too distant past to realize the previous government left them floating in the wilderness for four almost five years by slapping a moratorium in place and refusing to move forward on the file at all,” Holland said in an interview.
“I’m proud and I’m not apologetic of the fact that we are diligently working on environmental regulations, we put the regulation to offer an exemption in place and we are working hard to make sure we make connections with the First Nations in a meaningful way,” Holland said.
Holland says the government remains committed to responsible resource development in areas that are receptive to it.
