The Saint John Sea Dogs of Quebec Major Junior Hockey League got great news this week with the announcement of a five-year sponsorship agreement with TD Bank Group.
It was a short-lived moment for President and Trevor Georgie who then got down the business of getting the team into its training camp which began Wednesday afternoon.
Georgie says the ultimate goal is to get the Memorial Cup tournament here in Saint John and they are still building the team for that.
“I think it will be a very competitive camp we will still have one of the youngest teams in the league next year, we have depth in all positions right now and I think, you will see major competition from some of our veterans looking to secure their spot,” stated Georgie.
However, he says they will face younger players looking to make their mark in the league as well.
Georgie says it is a young team and that is why they have 2022 in mind.
“Guys at camp between our 2002-2003 born players they are going to be 18 and 19 when that comes around so this group here what our fans can look forward to is the nucleus of a team come together in hopes of hosting the Mem Cup,” stated Georgie.
The Saint John Sea Dogs have an exhibition game against the Charlottetown Islanders on Sunday at the qplex in Quispamsis.
