The executive director of Develop Saint John says they are really pleased with the excitement about The Telegraph, a six-story wood-frame development coming to Canterbury Street.
Steve Carson says in the last few years, they have seen a lot of interest in high-quality residential development in the urban core.
Carson says they are now seeing interest from the development community especially with Saint John’s high vacancy rates.
“We anticipate seeing a number of other really quality projects in the urban core over the next few years,” Carson said.
Developers Stephen Brittain and Lee Seale, announced plans earlier this month for The Telegraph to be constructed at the corner of Canterbury Street and Grannan Lane with residential units, street-level retail and commercial space.
Love seeing how the character & charm of the original Telegraph Building (circa 1954) at corner of Canterbury & Grannan has been respected & reimagined. @uptownsaintjohn @cityofsaintjohn pic.twitter.com/6EAwDshDAD

Carson says they are really pleased with the response from the public and the enthusiasm for this project.
He says they are working closely with the developers and the businesses in the area.
“The impact to business in the area will be mitigated and minimized in terms of construction activity so, we really think it’s a really positive project and really symbolic of that increased vibrancy and increased demand for living in the urban core.” Carson said.
Work is set to begin next spring.
