Two New Brunswick swimmers are set to compete in Budapest, Hungary this week, in the hopes of bringing home the gold.
Sixteen-year-old Brooklyn Douthwright of Riverview and 17-year-old Jacob Gallant of Fredericton are looking for a win at the World Junior Swimming championship.
Codiac Vikings Aquatic Club Coach Melanie Melanson was also chosen to go to gain some international experience.
In Riverview, she trains Douthwright, but she will be working with other athletes and Coaches in Budapest, “I get to learn from the other five coaches, but because my swimmer Brooklyn qualified to go, she is going to be coached by one of the other five Coaches while she is there. She gets that experience of learning from other Coaches and I get that experience as well, so it is really good for both of us. I can learn from some of the top Coaches in the country and I also get to observe and see how Team Canada does things.”
Douthwright will swim the 100 metre freestyle and Gallant is entered to swim in the 400 and 800 freestyle, 200 Butterfly and 400 individual medley events.
The world junior swimming championship runs August 20th to 25th.
