A biennial ceremony honouring fallen Peace Officers will also honour the lives of two Fredericton Police officers.
Constables Sara Burns and Robb Costello died while responding to a shooting last August in Fredericton.
The New Brunswick Peace Officers’ Memorial will now bear their names, along with 34 other New Brunswickers who have died in the line of duty.
The addition comes just in time for a ceremony to remember and honour their lives.
“I know what it means to put on the uniform and commit your life to serving and protecting the public,” said Public Safety Minister Carl Urquhart in a release. “The loss of peace officers is painful for us to remember. This is an opportunity to show our gratitude for the sacrifice and service made to keep our communities safe.”
Officers will march from Government House in Fredericton to the memorial, located along the Saint John River near Smythe Street and Pointe-Sainte-Anne Boulevard, at 10:15 this morning. The ceremony will begin at 10:30.
The event is open to the public. A reception will follow at Government House.
