The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says federal government workers are more likely to take sick days than those who work in the private sector.
Federal director Aaron Wudrick says numbers from Stats Canada show federal bureaucrats take 77 per cent more sick days than private-sector workers do.
“Federal government employees take about 12 sick days per year, where if you work in the private sector it’s only seven. That is a pretty big gap and we think it’s important to try and look for why,” stated Wudrick.
CTF says the government needs to make sure these sick days are being used properly.
Wudrick said, “These are not vacation days, it’s not as if you are banking them up in a way that you are sacrificing something, they are only for when you are sick. Given this huge discrepancy, taxpayer money is on the line here and it is something government should look at.”
