School is back in session Tuesday for most students across the province.
Anglophone South Superintendent Zoe Watson says there are often questions about who goes to school on that first day.
She explains they stagger the start days so students can get adjusted to being back in class.
“Our kindergarten children enter school on a staggered entry system, where half come on Tuesday, and the other half on the Wednesday, and then everybody on Thursday,” she said.
Watson says for grades six and nine, today is a “Transition Day,” so the students can adjust to being in a new school.
“For middle school students, having an opportunity to learn about the lockers and how to get the lock operating; and high schoolers, our high schools are large, and students’ big fear is that they’re going to get lost and they’re going to be late,” she said.
She says the new students will have the school to themselves today as they get tours and meet their teachers.
“We do find that when students move schools and begin their middle school experience and again when they move to the high schools that it’s quite daunting, that first day, and a time of anxiety for students, and sometimes parents as well,” she said.
She says they’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback about transition day, which was started a few years ago.
Watson says parents with questions can visit the school district’s website for answers on many topics, including busing.
“Parents can go on and register then they can find out about late busses with notifications sent to their device, and the can also get information there about the bus that their child should be taking,” she explained.
The school calendar is also on the website, and outlines which day this week your child starts school.
