Hurricane Dorian is expected to pounce on much of the Maritimes this weekend likely as a Category 1 system, but it appears New Brunswick will not be its main target after all.
Environment and Climate Change Canada Meteorologist Jean-Marc Couturier says the Fredericton area will get 15 to 25 mm of rain but along the coast, it will be more.
“During the day tomorrow probably about 40 to 50 mm with the rain beginning in the morning in the St. Stephen, Saint John area before spreading eastward to the Moncton and Kent County areas, said Couturier.
Environment Canada is on top of this system and alerts have already been sent out according to Couturier.
“We have issued at this point Hurricane watches for all of Nova Scotia and Tropical Storm watches for southeastern New Brunswick, which will be mostly Moncton and Fundy National Park and that will include Prince Edward Island.”
As for the track of the storm?
“Dorian is expected to make landfall during its visit if we were to draw where that track would pass it would be southern Nova Scotia on Saturday morning, south of Halifax in the afternoon and Canso or eastern shore during the evening hours,” stated Couturier.
By Sunday the system will be well on its way to Newfoundland.
