Saint John Police are warning of dangerous drugs that have appeared on the streets.
Officers have seen an increase in the use of both crystal meth and ICE pills.
The powerful stimulants are often injected, snorted or smoked, and while creating a euphoric high, have very violent comedowns that include aggression, hallucinations and paranoia.
“That is the danger for the public and officers,” said Acting Sgt. Clay Tremblay in a news release.
“Users under the influence sometimes exhibit amazing strength, use weapons to fight off what they see as demons, and have absolutely no memory of what they have done or said once the high wears off,” he added.
As well, police have noticed unsafe methods being used to get a better street value for the drugs, including being laced with de-wormer.
“What is being advertised is not what you always get. The use of these and any other drugs long term can break down the mind and body,” said Tremblay.
A recent seizure by the Street Crime Unit took up to 500 ICE pills off the street, as well as a quantity of crystal meth.
The number of crystal meth-related calls is also on the rise, from 20 in 2017 to almost 90 so far this year.
